01The 10-second transaction flow

How Remote ATM cash access works

One transaction, three parties, a record at every step. No card acceptance on your menu.

  1. 1

    Customer requests cash access

At checkout, the customer starts a PIN-based cash-access request on the EllaCash terminal. The action is theirs, and it’s explicit.

    Request created at the terminal
  2. 2

The Remote ATM flow authorizes and records it

The request routes through the ATM network for authorization. Every transaction gets its own record and its own receipt.

Record and receipt for every transaction
  3. 3

    You complete the cash purchase

Your team finishes the sale in cash and sees the transaction land in reporting in real time, itemized and reconcilable.

    Ledger entry visible in reporting
How this differs from a cashless ATM

The original “cashless ATM” model disguised a purchase as an ATM withdrawal, and industry analysis says that form is no longer compliant. Remote ATM cash access is structured differently: the customer makes a real, receipted cash-access transaction, and the merchant completes a separate cash purchase.

The exact program structure, the parties involved, and their roles are documented and reviewable. Review the compliance model.

02Outcomes

What changes for your dispensary

Card-acceptance economics come off your menu

No interchange percentage riding on every basket. EllaCash runs on a flat, disclosed convenience-fee model.

Typical card program 3.5% + $0.30 per transaction
EllaCash model $0 merchant interchange

At $80k monthly card volume, that’s roughly $2,400/mo kept in the store.

Illustrative model. Your numbers depend on volume, ticket size, and program terms, confirmed in the fit check.

Checkout that keeps the line moving

PIN entry, authorization, receipt. The flow is built for the counter and the drive-through window, not a back-office detour.

Measured throughput publishes with merchant case studies.

07Buyer FAQ

Questions buyers actually ask

Every answer links to the detail behind it and carries a review date, because the rules in this category change.

What is Remote ATM cash access?

A point-of-sale flow where your customer makes a receipted, PIN-based cash-access transaction at an EllaCash terminal, then completes the purchase in cash. See the transaction flow.

Reviewed July 2026
How is this different from a cashless ATM?

The original cashless-ATM model disguised purchases as withdrawals and is widely described as no longer compliant. Remote ATM keeps the cash-access transaction and the purchase distinct, each with its own record. See Compliance & Trust.

Reviewed July 2026
In which states and business types is it available?

The program operates across 24 states plus Washington DC, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. We confirm eligibility for your specific license and locations in the fit check. See state availability.

Reviewed July 2026
What does the customer see and receive?

A clear on-screen prompt, a PIN entry, and a printed receipt for the cash-access transaction, separate from your sales receipt.

Reviewed July 2026
What equipment and connectivity are required?

A countertop terminal with Wi-Fi (optional 4G), or a handheld 4G terminal at the drive-through window. Delivery deployments use handheld units where supported.

Reviewed July 2026
How are cash, settlement, refunds, and disputes handled?

Each is a defined program procedure with an owner and a timeline, documented during onboarding and reviewable before you sign.

Reviewed July 2026
What does it cost?

A flat, disclosed convenience-fee model rather than percentage interchange. We walk through the economics with your real volume in the fit check.

Reviewed July 2026
What data is stored and who can access it?

Transaction records are retained under a scoped policy with role-based access. The data-handling summary is part of the compliance review packet.

Reviewed July 2026
Which POS systems or workflows are supported?

EllaCash runs alongside your existing POS lane rather than replacing it. Workflow fit for your counter, window, or delivery setup is covered in the site review.

Reviewed July 2026
How long does implementation take?

Four steps: fit check, program and site review, equipment and training, go-live. Typical durations publish once verified against operational data.
